MUSIC POLICY -

Right On! is respected for the high quality and unique open-mindedness of its music policy. The principle behind it is simple: 100% good-time, old-school, black dance music - with a particular emphasis on Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latin styles.

This means you will hear life-affirming genres like: rhythm & blues, doo wop, soul, Motown, funk, hard bop, soul jazz, Latin jazz, calypso, mento, highlife, rumba, cumbia, mambo, boogaloo, samba, ska, rocksteady, reggae and more.

Unlike many of today's clubs, where the music is played from CDs or laptops, Right On! has a policy of vintage vinyl and shellac only: 45rpms, LPs and 78rpms played on a high quality sound system. This is the best way to hear the music as it was meant to sound.

Most of the records played at the club date from the 50s, 60s and 70s, but we choose music based on its sound, not on its date, so we may play even older tunes at times or even tracks by contemporary artists such as James Hunter, Ska Cubano and The James Taylor Quartet.

We aim to play nothing but the very best records, whether they be ultra-rare or well-known, but try to avoid over-played classics that can be heard regularly in other clubs. We also try to avoid playing the same tunes on every date to ensure that each Right On! is a unique audio experience.

DANCEFLOOR -

Patrons are asked to respect dancers by not standing or drinking on the dancefloor. Coats and bags should not be taken into the club, but placed in the cloakroom facility provided.

DRESS CODE -

There is no dress code, but smart dress is encouraged.
